With over 14 years of hands-on experience, we create, repair, and maintain dreadlocks on all hair types. We are proud to be one of Ireland’s leading dreadlock studios, offering a full range of services, products, and personalised services.

Our Journey
The Mookley Hair Care Story began in 2011, when the founder, Melanie, discovered her passion for dreadlocks while living in her native Netherlands. What started as an experiment on her own hair quickly became a craft, and then, a calling.
In 2013, Melanie moved to Ireland, bringing her growing knowledge of dreadlock creation and maintenance with her. In 2024, she proudly opened the first dedicated Mookley Studio in Ballymakeera, finally bringing her decade-long dream to life.
Our dedication to holistic hair health was further solidified when Melanie studied herbal medicine in 2016 and 2017. She put this knowledge of herbs and natural skin and hair care directly into developing the Mookley product line. Every item is made with organic ingredients and works harmoniously to keep your hair, scalp, and dreadlocks clean, moisturised, and healthy.
Today, Mookley is more than a studio. It is a creative space, a community, and a celebration of individuality.
Our Philosophy and Services
We believe that great dreadlocks are the result of time, patience, and professional skill, without any chemicals.
- Technique: We primarily use a crochet technique and offer interlocking upon request. We are strictly wax and gel-free, as we believe these products are entirely unnecessary for the locking process.
- Maintenance: We excel at maintenance, finding custom solutions for any dread damage, bumps, and limps, and recommending the tight natural oils to keep your scalp nourished and the locking process.
- Dreadlock Services: We provide creation of natural dreads, maintenance, and beautiful, temporary wool dreadlock extensions that can be plaited in or added permanently.

Melanie—Founder & Dreadlock Artist
I am the owner of Mookley dreadlocks and founder of Mookley Hair Care Products. I love the satisfaction of working with diverse hair types and being a part of so many personal dreadlock journeys. I have expertise working with all hair types, repairing damage, and creating clean and long-lasting dreadlocks, using mainly crochet and interlocking techniques. I also design handmade wool dreadlock extensions, offering a beautiful and versatile way to enhance your dreadlock style.
Helene—Dreadlock Artist
Hello! I’m Helene, and I have had dreadlocks for nearly my whole life, learning the do’s and don’ts (and thankfully moving on from the wallpaper glue era!) the hard way. Creativity has always driven me, and my work is all about celebrating your uniqueness and facilitating your personal transformation. I was lucky enough to join Melanie after completing her course in 2020. It is great to have a partner in crime.
Kathryn—Hairdressing Specialist
Kathryn is the newest, but no less essential, member of the team, having joined in July last year. With more than a decade of hairdressing experience, she adds a warm and professional layer of service for all our clients. Kathryn uses only natural, organic dyes and takes her time to ensure every cut, style, or colour leaves you feeling confident and refreshed. She can cut and style all hair types and ages, and she specialises in shaping styles that beautifully complement half-dread, half-loose looks.
